How To Support Your Circulation In The Third Trimester of Pregnancy

You are in your third trimester of pregnancy – congratulations! It is such an exciting time as you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of your little miracle!

You are also…very pregnant. You lost sight of your feet a while ago. If it hits the floor, it is dead to you.

When you are so far along in your pregnancy, your circulation starts to slow down. Let’s face it, it’s easy for things to get “stuck” when you have a little person taking up that much space in your abdomen!

Support Circulation – Move

As you get closer to your due date, being mindful of supporting your circulation becomes an important part of going into labor.

Circulation is just one of the important factors to go into labor on time. When thinking about preparing for labor, be mindful of different ways to “move” your body like:

  • Movement – yes literally. Dancing, brisk walking and other forms of exercise to stimulate your blood.

  • Intercourse – how the baby gets in is how the baby gets back out again. ‘Nuf said.

  • Shaking Leaf Exercise for circulation and stress relief (2 min of vibration)

  • Warm bath/shower

  • Massage once a week

  • Acupuncture once a week

Support Circulation – Food

Food is another important part of the circulation equation. Yes we have all heard the old adage that spicy foods help with labor, and it’s all true.

It’s more than just spicy food, however. There are other kinds of foods that don’t cause quite as much heartburn that do a great job as well.

Foods like:

  • Green Tea (factor this into your total caffeine intake for the day)

  • Black Tea (factor this into your total caffeine intake for the day)

  • Pomegranates

  • Cinnamon

  • Onions

  • Garlic

  • Ginger (which along with papaya enzymes can help that heartburn and reflux that is all too common in this stage as well.)
